Some Airbnb advice…
- Keep in mind, Airbnb is a self-run business for most individuals. Always treat them with respect. It's nice to leave a detailed review along with some pictures of you having fun during your stay.
- Places in the Old Town area tend to feel a little cheaper and trendier (thin walls, neon signage, multiple beds in each room, etc.). For a more authentic/unique experience, branch further out on the map.
- Always read the reviews and check how much you will be charged for cleaning fees, etc. Sometimes it makes more sense to buy a hotel room.
- Don't shy away from apartments, townhomes, and condos! They are cheap to book and will feel similar to a resort; most of them have high-end amenities (pool, gym, game room, bar, etc.).
SHORT-TERM RENTAL RECS
Looking for another option or looking to stay for more than a couple of weeks?
Vrbo has some options as well (some are double-listed on both Airbnb and Vrbo).
Avantstay is a newer site with fewer options but really clean, updated home models to rent at several different price levels. Best for groups and if you want a more luxurious experience.
Porter Vacation Rentals is another website that offers luxury vacation rentals, not only in Scottsdale, but in Flagstaff and Sedona as well.
Using a real estate agent is a great way to get professional help if you're looking to stay a month or more. (Check my TIPS page for my top recs!)
CAR RENTALS
Turo Vs. Rental Car Companies
As far as rental cars go, if you are flying into PHX airport- I recommend getting your car at a rental car company off-location from the airport. You have to take a shuttle to the airport rental car location.
When I first visited Phoenix, I ubered to an Enterprise about 10 min away from the airport and got a car there. To each their own, though!
Let me tell you about Turo.
Turo is an app where you can rent cars from individuals. I would call it the Airbnb equivalent of renting cars. You can go on the app, create an account, and scroll through hundreds of cars available in the area. You can go as high class or as low class as you'd like (from Ferraris to Camrys).
Rideshare
Uber and Lyft are readily available here. If you are going outside the center of the city or have a super early ride to a golf course or the airport. I recommend scheduling a ride in advance.
Check out, Arrange A Ride for a private transportation option. Great for big groups and takes away the stress of finding a random ride.
If you see golf carts in Old Town…
As long as your destination is somewhere in Old Town, hop on and go! There are many golf cart drivers that take people from bar to bar or right to your home if it's a couple of miles away. Some have tons of seats and play music on the ride. Fun and quick way to get back without waiting for an Uber/Lyft. Be prepared to pay in cash, as some don't take credit cards.
