2ND SWING

You may have sold your used clubs online through here for some quick cash to buy new clubs, but 2nd Swing offers a lot more.

  • Their in-store location in Scottsdale has an indoor putting green and 17 fitting/demo bays you can try out clubs in.
  • New and used clubs can be purchased here (pro-tip- a gently used club versus a brand new one will save you tons of money!)
  • They offer several different types of fittings-
  • Walk-in, appointment, and online.
  • Tour Van is a more thorough fitting with further TrackMan info and in a separate hitting facility, so you can get the most data and attention possible from the Tour Van fitter. You can also get a free follow-up fitting (with or without purchase) if you pick a Tour Van.
  • PING Performance allows you to get fit in PING's private bay by a factory-trained PING fitter. You get one on one time with this fitter for a full, in-depth analysis of new PING equipment.
  • Most of their fitting selections are free with a qualifying club purchase!
  • You can also trade in your old clubs. (2nd Swing, duh) and club repair is offered here.

PGA SUPERSTORE

Quite literally a superstore with golf clothing, shoes, golf balls, training aids, clubs, and more

  • They offer free fittings for drivers, irons, wedges, putters, and golf balls.
  • You can also book a private fitting in their performance studio for a full TrackMan analysis. No discount on clubs if you get fit here, but pricing is very reasonable!
  • Not only do they offer fittings, but you can also book their indoor practice bays to get some reps in. Low price of $15/hour.
  • There are 4 locations in the PHX metro area - check out your home store's page for weekly events and lessons to book.

VAN'S GOLF SHOP

Owned by Worldwide Golf Shops, Van's is a local favorite here.

  • While it's difficult to book a fitting online, everyone at Van's is super helpful and will accommodate you if you call to inquire about a fitting. Offers Foresight technology for the session with certification with Titleist, Callaway, TaylorMade, Mizuno, PING, and Cobra.
  • They offer golf simulators and indoor hitting bays if you want to try out some clubs for free.
  • Club repair and golf club trade-in are available here.
  • Also, have plenty of golf gear - balls, shoes, clothing, accessories, and more.
  • If you're visiting and didn't bring your clubs, they offer rental sets by Prosets.
VAN'S GOLF SHOPS

PXG

Flashy, loud, sleek, overpriced, whatever you want to call PXG, but their golf store and fitting center does look nice.

  • Obviously, you're only getting fitted for one single brand here.
  • 3 huge fitting bays with simulators and a putting lab. Full bag, driver, iron, putter, and “lucky 7” (where you pick out 7 clubs at one price) are offered.
  • Pricing is not listed on their website, and no info about if you get a discount on clubs if you book a fitting.
  • No walk-ins are allowed by appointment only.
  • Check out all of their new clothing while you're there - people may say their clubs are overpriced, but their apparel is fashionable and trendy.

PING

The only PING fitting by a PING fitter in town would be through the 2nd Swing or at Kierland Golf Club.

  • The benefit of booking a session at Kierland is that you get to hit on actual grass and get real turf interaction. A PING fitting specialist will analyze your swing with TrackMan, Trajectory Tuning, PING Shaft app, PING 2.0 putting, and their golf ball fitting technology if you desire.
  • You can also try out their online PING web fitting to track your data and learn about your golf swing on your own.
  • The fitting is free!
  • Highly recommend making the trip to their factory in Peoria and scheduling a free tour of their campus - super educational, and you get to step inside the famous PING putter vault.
  • You can also send in your PING clubs or drop them off at the factory for repair - most of the time at no additional cost.

PUTTING WORLD

  • A new kind of golf experience here on the scene in Scottsdale.
  • Located on the Promenade, it's “An 18-Hole Indoor Championship Putting Course & Entertainment Venue.”
  • It's $25/round on Sunday-Thursday ($15 replay round) or $30/round on Friday-Saturday ($20 replay round). Complete with food to order and a bar!
  • Also offers usage of its putting labs with all the high-tech equipment to analyze your putting stroke and improve.
  • Can purchase memberships in-store.
PUTTING WORLD

BEST LEAGUES AND SKINS GAMES

THE Monday Skins Game at Papago

The most well-known skins game in town. You better be a scratch golfer if you play in this one.

Players like Max Homa and Joel Dahmen occasionally play in this one. They tee it up from 7300 yards and have stroked and skins cash pots.

Ladies are welcome to play too. $35 for skins and $10 for par 3's.

Tuesdays at Mountain Shadows

Every Tuesday from 11 AM - 2 PM, this stroke and skins game is hosted at the par 3 Mountain Shadows course.

A lot of good players compete in this one too.

Payouts include birdie streak, first 5, final 5, and beast ball as well.

$30 mandatory buy-in for skins and an extra $ for the other games.

How to find scrambles and

tournaments to play in

  • Scope out flyers and ads at the golf courses you play. Many companies and outings will recruit players through the source. Never hurts to ask your local head pro if he knows of any with spots available.
  • Facebook's groups are the best thing to happen to golfers looking to get a game together! Many will promote their charity tournament or scramble they are playing in, or even offer an extra spot in their tee time for a foursome. Be mindful as most of these groups are geared toward locals and not toward tourists looking for quick recs (that's what I'm here for!). Golfers, in the will, also give advice on golf equipment, swing fitting centers, and course reviews of where they played that day.

Putting World

  • Yes, Putting World hosts a monthly $30,000 World Putting Tour…
  • You have to pay a $200 membership fee and a $300 tournament entry fee per tournament.
  • You get four chances within a month to qualify and shoot your lowest score on their 18-hole putting course, followed by a 2-day tournament with all the qualifiers (a cut is made after the 1st round).

Spark Golf

  • A laid-back, casual 9-hole golf league not only in Phoenix but all over the country.
  • Provides a great way to meet local golfers, both experienced and beginners.
  • Rates are cheap for the 9-hole round, and courses like Encanto, GCU, Legacy, Orange Tree, and more are included.
  • Most of the rounds are held in the late afternoons starting in March, being that there is more daylight to finish a twilight 9 in.
